ADDISON, Ill. — The Ashford University men’s bowling team missed a trip to the national tournament by one spot, and the women placed seventh Saturday and Sunday at the 2014 XBowling Intercollegiate Team Championship Sectional Qualifier at Stardust Bowl.
The Ashford men needed a top-four finish to advance but finished fifth after 64 baker style games, collecting 12,244 pins, 89 pins behind fourth-place Clarke for the final spot at the Intercollegiate Team Championships in Reno, Nev.
Perennial power Robert Morris University rolled a combined 13,131 over the two-day event, winning the sectional by 389 pins over second-place McKendree (Mo.). Calumet College of St. Joseph mowed down 12,658 pins to finish in third place.
The AU women finished their weekend in seventh place with 11,981 pins, 369 behind McKendree, which secured the fourth and final spot at nationals. Pikeville took the top spot with 13,341 pins, followed by second-place Robert Morris (12,916) and third-place Grand View (12,691).
Both squads will wrap up their seasons March 28-30 at the 2014 NAIA Invitational Team Championships at Hawthorn Bowl in Vernon Hills, Ill.
