Ashford pulls out victory

DAVENPORT – It started off competitive, but after two sets the Ashford Saints ran away with victory No. 12 of the season, beating host St. Ambrose 25-19, 23-25, 25-11, 25-12 in college volleyball at Lee Lohman Arena on Tuesday night.

Outside hitter Kristen Kotch put down a team-high 13 kills while Morgan Martells added 11 for the Saints (12-5).

Ashford’s offense had an explosive night, hitting .336 for the match with 53 kills against just 10 errors on 128 attack attempts.

Freshman setter Verenice Chaparro served up 24 assists with Danielle Rzewnicki totaling 17. Libero Samantha Schultz picked up a match-high 20 digs to go with four assists.

Junior Sarah Garvick put down four of AU’s five service aces, while Martells recorded a pair of solo blocks.

Maddie McElroy and Katie Bailey had 11 kills to lead the Bees (8-4).

Ashford is off until next Tuesday, when it hosts William Penn.
