---- — CLINTON – Grand View took advantage of Ashford’s inability to bring runners home Tuesday, beating the Saints 6-4 and 8-0 in a non-conference college baseball doubleheader at Ashford University Field.
The Ashford offense recorded 18 hits on the afternoon but couldn’t capitalize on its chances, stranding 23 baserunners on the day.
Juniors Tanner Courtney and R.J. Roberts had three hits each for the Saints (11-21-1), but the Vikings (19-17) used a big inning in each game on their way to the pair of wins.
Vikings starter Kyle Mesecher (2-1) surrendered only two hits over the final four innings. He scattered six hits and struck out seven to pick up the shutout in game two.
Next up for the Saints is a home showdown with St. Ambrose in a nine-inning contest at 5 p.m. Thursday.
