---- — SILVIS, Ill. – Ashford matched its first-day score but climbed three spots in the team standings Tuesday to finish third at the NAIA Midwest Invitational men’s golf tournament at TPC Deere Run.
The Saints were in sixth place Monday after opening with a 303. Grand View won the tournament title with a 291-298—589, 10 shots better than runner-up William Woods (Mo.).
“I am proud of our guys, especially the three freshmen,” Ashford coach Josh Heiple said. “They hung in today despite the tough conditions out on the course. We beat some good teams this week and will take that confidence into our final event of the fall this weekend.”
Freshman Matt Chiasson of Cambridge, Ontario, fired a team-best 75-73—148 to finish in a tie for sixth place overall, his first time cracking the top 10 in a meet. Fellow freshman Landon Osborne recorded his highest career finish (12th), carding a 76-74—150.
Junior Jonathan LaRue (75-80—155) tied for 32nd, while freshman Pedro Velasco (79-77) and junior Ryan Hilton (77-79) each shot a 156 to finish in a tie for 35th place.
