Asford fifth in Wisconsin tournament

KOHLER, Wis. — Ashford closed the fall portion of the men’s golf schedule with a fifth-place finish Tuesday in the Kohler Collegiate Classic at the Straits Course at Whistling Straits.

Facing off against a field of 15 teams from the NAIA and NCAA Division II and Division III, the Saints fired a score of 622 (313 on Monday and 309 on Tuesday) to finish nine shots back of the top spot.

Freshman Matt Chiasson (79-75) and Day 1 co-leader Ryan Hilton (73-82) topped the Ashford leaderboard as each carded a 155 to finish in a tie for 17th place.

One shot behind the duo was freshman Landon Osborne, who fired an 80-76—156 and earned a tie for 21st.

Junior Jonathan LaRue tied for 28th place (81-78—159), while freshman Pedro Velasco’s 82-79—161 earned him a share of 37th place to round out the Ashford scoring.

Grand View University took home the team championship with a 613 (312-301), besting Grand Rapids C.C. (Mich.) by two shots. Grand Rapids’ Jared Multer (76-73), Morningside’s Matt Young (76-73) and Texas Wesleyan’s Blake Vinson (77-72) each carded a 149 to finish atop the standings.
