Ashford students to display art

CLINTON — Seven Ashford University students have been invited to display their art at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport.

The are will be displayed from Saturday to Feb. 9.

A wide variety of artistic techniques will be showcased by the Ashford students including, Carmen Bechtel, Clinton, senior, “Radioactive,” ink, prisma marker and watercolor pencil; Andrea Salter, Clinton, senior, “Reflections and Echoes,” mixed media; Leslie Marvin, Bellevue, sophomore, “Feeding Time,” charcoal; Courtney Lynn Blaber, Davenport, senior, “Through the Looking Glass,” digital photography; Sarah Garvick, New Lenox, Ill., sophomore, “Magic at the Bar,” acrylic; Rachel Neymeyer, Camanche, senior, “And A Good Afternoon to You, Too,” Copic markers; Angeline Larsen, Anita, sophomore, “Underwater Dance,” markers and water.

Ashford will be one of eight schools participating in this year’s College Invitational at the Figge with the artworks on display in the Mary Waterman Gildehaus Community Gallery.

A free “sneak preview” reception for the college invitational begins at 5:30 p.m. today, followed by an awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m.

This will be great exposure for the students, art professor Anna Pagnucci said.

“The Figge is high caliber and it offers the added benefit of being a museum instead of a gallery which, for a student, is normally much more difficult to be exhibited in,” Pagnucci said. “Our students will be part of a select group of competitive schools, so it should be really exciting.”

The museum is located at 225 W. Second St. in Davenport.
