Saints wind up in 8th at Invitational

WAVERLY – Ashford wrapped up its second tournament of the fall with an eighth-place finish in women’s golf Sunday at the Wartburg Fall Invitational.

The Saints totaled 336 strokes Saturday and 340 on Sunday for a 676 total at Centennial Oaks Golf Course.

Courtney Gieseman topped the scorecard for the Saints. The senior from Coal Valley, Ill., finished in a tie for 12th place with a 79-81--160, besting teammate Stephanie Stair (85-83--168), which was good enough for a 26th-place tie.

Sophomore Chantel Eicher (87-87) and freshman Laura Stair (85-89) each finished with 174s to tie for 33rd place. Rounding out the Ashford top five was sophomore Katie Thompson, whose 91-93--184 gave her a tie for 56th place.

Playing as an individual for AU was junior Katelyn Gille, who slotted herself in 43rd place after shooting a two-round total of 88-90--178.

The University of St. Thomas (Minn.) wrapped up the team championship after firing a two-day team total of 634, holding off Grand View University by four shots.

Medalist honors went to Grand View’s Kenzie Rottinghaus, who fired a 74-73--147 to edge Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Katie Engler by a single stroke.

The Saints are back on the links on Friday, when they travel to Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend, Ind., for the Battle at Blackthorn.
