---- — DAVENPORT – In its final match of the regular season, the Ashford University women’s soccer team will have some momentum to carry with them into postseason play.

In a showdown of top-25 rivals, the 20th-ranked Saints got a second-half goal from sophomore Alicia Tamburro to hold off No. 25 St. Ambrose University 1-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Davenport Soccer Complex.

Senior goalkeeper Jessica VanDyke turned aside three shots for her eighth shutout of the year as the Saints closed the regular season with a 12-3 record.

Morgan Lynn turned aside three shots for the Queen Bees (12-4-1).

After a scoreless defensive battle in the first half, Tamburro broke through for the game’s lone goal in the 69th minute, taking a feed from freshman Hannah Scheid off a corner kick and putting it past Lynn for her fifth goal of the season.

With the assist, Scheid moves into sole possession of second place on the team with four helpers, one back of Tamburro.

Shots were 13-12 in favor of the Queen Bees. Ashford held a slight edge in corner kicks, taking five of the game’s nine attempts

The Saints will turn their attention toward the 2013 Association of Independent Institutions conference tournament, starting Nov. in Lawrenceville, Ga. Their quest to win back-to-back conference tournament titles begins with a meeting against Lindenwood-Belleville.
