No smartphone? No problem.

If you don't have a smartphone, you may feel out of the loop sometimes. You don't use those fancy photo apps and can't pull up Facebook or Google on a whim.

But just because you don't own a smartphone doesn't mean you have to stay out of the loop.

At the Herald, we often talk about and promote our methods of news delivery. We do have a lot of things that smartphone users can take advantage of (like our mobile website), but we also offer options for non-smartphone owners.

Text Alerts

You don't have to have a smartphone to get our text alerts. Since they're sent as a text message, any phone with text capabilities can receive them. (As with any text message program, standard messaging rates apply. You can check these through your cell phone provider.)

When you register for text alerts, you’ll have the opportunity to choose which of our updates you want to receive. You can pick from alerts on breaking news, daily headlines, severe weather, school closings, sports scores, entertainment, community information and more.

You can opt-in to receive breaking news alerts or get the daily forecast at 7 a.m. You can receive updates in every category or just one, so it is fully customizable. Whatever you want, we’ll text it to you.

To sign up, visit our text alert registration page and fill out the form. After you receive a text, you’ll be able to find more information on the topics and stories that interest you in the print edition of the Herald, online at ClintonHerald.com, or from our other sources. Text alerts are just a fast, portable extension of the news we already gather every single day.

Twitter Alerts

If you didn't already know, Twitter isn't just for smartphones. It's always been compatible with any phone that has text capabilities.

If you're not a Twitter user, you can learn more and sign up at Twitter.com. If you do use Twitter, you can sync up your cell phone under your mobile settings. Then you can send and receive Tweets via text message, and that's where we come in.

At the Herald, we post Tweets throughout the day on our page, @ClintonHerald. Once you follow us, there's a little drop-down option box you can click on to "turn on mobile notifications." If you select that option, you will receive our Tweets via text message on your phone.

If you don't own a cell phone, or don't have text capabilities, it will be hard to get updates on-the-go. However, you can check our website throughout the day from any device that gets internet access and find the latest news. Our print version will always contain the news we were able to collect prior to print deadlines.
