MUSCATINE Sarah Massey hit a shot with 1 second left to send the Clinton River Queens to a 39-37 win over Muscatine in Mississippi Athletic Conference girls basketball Friday.
With the game tied at 37 and just seconds remaining, Massey came up with a loose ball and put in the game-winner in from the lane.
The River Queens broke a 17-17 tie with an 8-2 run to start the second half after three baskets by sophomore Leisha Harris (game-high 14 points) and built the lead to 12 at 35-23 just moments into the fourth quarter.
The Muskies played catch-up the rest of the final frame and eventually tied the game on a Haylie Franklin put-back layup with :17 left in the game.
The River Queens (2-3, 1-1 MAC) turned over the ball with 9 seconds remaining, but Massey and Clinton capitalized on a Muskie miscue for the game-winning shot.
In addition to Harriss big evening, senior Sarah Wenzel chipped in 11 points for the River Queens. Courtney Camp led Clinton with 10 rebounds, while Harris had nine.
Muscatine (1-4, 0-2) was paced by nine points each from Viola Wagner and Jordan Walgren.
