BREAKING: Name released in airlifted carjacking incident

CAMANCHE — Authorities have released the name of a man who was airlifted to Iowa City after he allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle in Camanche last week.

James Geronzin, 38, of Camanche, was flown to University of Iowa hospitals early Friday morning to treat serious injuries. Geronzin's condition is unknown at this time.

A source from the Iowa Department of Public Safety said Geronzin stole a 2005 Chevy 2500 truck owned by John Chapin of Princeton from the B&S General Store. Camanche Police located Geronzin and the truck, and after Geronzin refused verbal commands, DPS said he sped off in the vehicle.

The truck went off the road at the "T" intersection at 37th Avenue and Ninth Street in Camanche.

Authorities believe alcohol may have been a factor and are awaiting test results.

Charges are pending and include various traffic violations as well as possibly driving while impaired. Additional charges from the Clinton County Sheriff's Department are expected.
