CLINTON — David M. Nelson, president and CEO of NelsonCorp Wealth Management, was among an elite group of independent financial advisers invited by Cambridge Investment Research, Inc. President Amy Webber to join her at the Financial Services Institute Board Capitol Hill Day in Washington, DC.
Webber, Nelson and other members of FSI, spent day one discussing issues of importance, followed by a day on Capitol Hill, meeting with nearly 200 members of Congress on the most critical issues affecting the industry and investors’ access to affordable, objective financial advice.
During his time on Capitol Hill, Nelson and other senior executives from independent financial services firms met with elected officials to discuss several key issues including:
n Preserving small investor access to professional financial advice;
n Protecting advisers’ independent contractor status ensuring they will not be forced to become employees of their broker-dealers; and
n Preserving tax incentives to help hard-working Americans save for retirement.
“It is critical that members of Congress hear directly from our members who are also their constituents,” said FSI President and CEO Dale Brown. “These meetings are an opportunity for lawmakers to hear directly from the experts who help Main Street Americans achieve their financial goals. Our members are able to share real-life experience as to how the decisions elected officials and regulators make impact everyday Americans.”
