StarrMatica competes for small business award

CLINTON — StarrMatica Learning Systems, LLC, has been selected out of more than 1,900 entries as one of 50 finalists for Intuit’s Small Business Grant Competition. Intuit, maker of QuickBooks software, invited small businesses to share their stories via Intuit’s Small Business United Web site for the first round of competition. A panel of judges selected StarrMatica’s story as a first-round finalist based on user ratings, quality and creativity.

As a finalist, StarrMatica earned a $5,000 business grant and a Flip Video Camera which was used to create a company video for the final round of competition.

“We are honored by this selection and are enthusiastic about working with Intuit to spread StarrMatica’s mission to help elementary teachers instruct with technology,” company President Emily Starr said.

Forty percent of StarrMatica’s final competition score is based on the number of online votes the company’s video receives. StarrMatica’s video can be viewed and voted for at Community.intuit.com/contests by clicking the “StarrMatica” video. Voting ends May 31, and winners are announced June 4. Four finalists will receive $10,000 business grants and $2,500 in Intuit products and services. One grand prize winner will receive a $25,000 business grant and $2,500 in Intuit products and services.

StarrMatica Learning Systems, LLC, creates educational content designed to enhance the effective use of technology in teaching reading and mathematics in elementary schools. Area subscribers to StarrMatica are Bettendorf, Northeast and Central DeWitt community school districts and Holy Family Schools.

StarrMatica is wholly owned and operated by Starr, a former fourth-grade teacher from Central DeWitt. For additional information about StarrMatica, visit Starrmatica.com
