CLINTON — Southgate Motors, in conjunction with Chrysler, recently held fundraisers for the Clinton School District.
The Drive for the Kids campaign sponsors test drives at local schools or events in order to raise money for the sponsoring venue. Chrysler donates a specified amount for each vehicle driven, and Southgate matches that amount.
This year, a Drive for the Kids event held in May raised a total of $850 for the former Horace Mann school, which was given to the new Eagle Heights Elementary, and $560 was donated to the Clinton Community School District 21st Century after-school program, after a test-drive event held at Alliant Energy Field in July.
According to Tom McEleney, president of Southgate Motors, his company sponsors the event because it provides support for school programs that may be in danger of being cut, as well as giving the dealership a chance to get their products out in front of people.
“We enjoy doing it,” McEleney said. “It’s just a win-win situation.”
