New events highlight Camanche Days

The Clinton Herald

---- — CAMANCHE — Along with the staple of events of Camanche Days, there are a few new events taking shape this year.

A trivia contest will be held. This will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, with the adult division beginning at 6:30 p.m. Entry fee is $10 per person and there is a maximum of six members per team.

There will be five rounds of five questions each and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

The first barbecue contest will be held at Platt Park on Saturday. There will be three classes — whole chicken, whole pork loin and best sauce.

Cooking of the pork and chicken has to be on site and meat distribution begins at around 8 a.m. Judging will be at 5 p.m.

Food can only be prepared using wood or charcoal or a combination of both. A $60 entry fee per class must be paid by registration.

Sauce competitors will be judged separately with a $20 entry fee. Each team must provide their own fire extinguisher and food safety equipment.

The food prepared cannot be sold at Camanche Days. The judges decision is final. Trophies and money prizes will be awarded for best and runner-up in each class.

The pre-fireworks rally will be held Sunday night before the fireworks. This will be held in the south ball diamond closest to 12th Place and the TEEN board is asking people to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the show and participate.

Lastly, a whiffleball game will be held. The event will pit senior citizens against young children, and the only rule that is in place is that senior citizens can walk between bases. This will be held at 6 p.m. Aug. 11, on the Platt Park South Diamond.
