Indians win their opener

CAMANCHE — After a split of the six singles matches, Camanche won two of the three doubles matches to defeat Western Dubuque 5-4 in boys tennis Monday.

Tanner Atkinson and Harsh Patel, a pair of juniors who also won in singles, combined to beat Devin Walters and Ryan Yoder 10-6 at No. 1 singles. The Indians also won at No. 2 doubles, as Devin Michels and Zach Phillips combined to beat Yash Patel and Joseph Dennison 10-6.

Camanche’s other victory came at No. 6 singles, where freshman Nate Thoms beat John Keopmann 10-8.

Indians girls split

Camanche opened the girls tennis season Saturday with a 7-2 win against Davenport West, but then Bettendorf beat the Indians 8-1 later in the day.

“It was nice to have some great weather and get out and play some matches today,” Camanche coach Erin Montgomery said. “We were missing a couple players today, so some girls had to move up in the lineup. We have a week off to prepare for the Assumption Invite next Saturday.”
