CAMANCHE — Camanche pitchers Morgann Mussmann and Kelsey Sexton combined to limit Monticello to three runs Monday, sweeping a doubleheader from Monticello by 7-2 and 4-1 scores.
Mussmann allowed five hits and struck out six in the opening game. Sexton struck out two in Game 2.
“Morgan and Kelsey are really starting to get in their groove on the mound, and I think they are a great one-two punch,” Camanche coach Erin Schlotfeldt said.
Jordan Nissen had three hits for Camanche, including a double and a single in the first game. Libby Schnoor drove in one run in the opener and two in the nightcap. Carly Wehde and Bailey Mensinger also drove in runs in the first game. Julia Moore and Maddie Parker each drove in a run in Game 2.
“We did some things tonight I’ve been trying to get out of the girls all season, so I was excited to see new things start happening,” Schlotfeldt said. “Things as a whole are starting to shape up very well. When our offense is alive along with our pitching and steady defense, we are a tough team to beat.”
The wins evened Camanche’s record at 7-7.
