Camanche records road victory

LOWDEN — Devon Belk, Blake Bialas, Hunter Alm and Derek Harksen drove in two runs each to back Tanner Atkinson’s solid outing on the mound and lead Camanche to a 10-5 win against host North Cedar on Monday in River Valley Conference baseball.

The Indians struck quickly after the varsity game was moved ahead of the junior varsity game because of threatening weather, and then it was delayed 45 minutes by lightning. Camanche scored five runs in the second inning and three in the third to build an 8-0 lead.

“Devon Belk continues his hot hitting with a double and a homer,” Camanche coach Darryl Cochran said. “Blake Bialas had some timely two-out hits, driving in a couple of runs..”

Meanwhile, Atkinson allowed just two runs.

“Tanner Atkinson pitched well, going six innings, allowing only five hits, striking out six and only walking one,” Cochran said.

A three-run second inning keyed the Sabers’ victory. They trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the inning.

Western Dubuque (6-10) scored four runs in the top of the first in the other game, only to see the Sabers (6-9) come back with five in their half. But the Bobcats then put up two runs in each of the next three innings to seize control. Bryce Hoerner drove in three runs for the Bobcats.
