CAMANCHE — Camanche High School is replacing one Clinton High graduate with another to lead the volleyball program.
Activities director Todd Borrison said the school had selected Emily Turner to take over as varsity coach after the resignation of Josh Davis.
Turner comes to Camanche from Moulton-Udell High School, which was 1-17 last fall. She also will teach Spanish at Camanche.
“I’m excited we have gotten someone who played for (Clinton coach Mark) Massey,” Borrison said. “That speaks volumes.”
Turner becomes the program’s fourth coach in five years since Mark Cremer stepped down after guiding the Indians to the 2009 state tournament.
“I’m hoping Emily stays for a while,” Borrison said. “We’ve had success, but we have had a revolving door. Some consistency is important.”
Davis served one year as varsity volleyball coach. The Indians finished 18-12, losing to Mount Vernon in the regional semifinals. Mount Vernon went on to finish in the final four at the Iowa Class 3A state tournament.
“I’m not surprised he was one and done,” Borrison said of Davis, who also coaches the varsity boys basketball team.
“We really appreciate what Josh did,” Borrison said. “He came in last year and stabilized things.
