Event showcases Camanche

CAMANCHE — Small towns are often paired with a variety of stereotypes, but one thing they don’t usually get enough credit for is the dedicated people who tie their communities together.

To ensure that Camanche wouldn’t fall victim to that, lifetime resident Karlee Low decided four years ago that she would do something to give back to the community, the businesses and the organizations that too often go unnoticed.

“Party in the Park is really a promotion of the Camanche businesses and organizations,” she said. “To let people know what’s available to them right here in Camanche. Things that they don’t need to go anywhere else to find.”

The fourth annual Camanche Party in the Park will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on July 18, and if the weather holds up, Low expects it will be the largest Party in the Park yet.

With the party commencing outdoors, weather is a key component in its success, but because it has gained so much momentum over the years, the committee decided this year for the first time they would offer an alternative location in the event of rain.

“The weather’s been so unpredictable this year that I just decided to put in a rental for the middle school gym,” Low said. “In years past we would just cancel and say that’s it, but people have come to know this event and look forward to it so we didn’t want to have to cancel.”

If they are favored by Mother Nature, the Party in the Park committee is expecting around 200 people at the annual event.

And while 200 people isn’t a large turnout, crowd for the city of Camanche, Low says it’s exactly what they like to have at the community and family driven evening.
