Welcome-back win

The only wins for teams other than Camanche and Northeast were by Maquoketa’s Corderol Campbell, who went 19-5 in the long jump, and Morrison’s Ryan Mayberry in the 100.

Mayberry edged Camanche’s McDaniel by .07 as he won the 100 in 11.06. He came back moments later and finished second to Harksen in the 400 and added another second to Harksen later in the 200.

“I knew I’d be a little slow out of the blocks (in the 100), but halfway through I made up a lot of ground and kicked it in.”

He paid the price in the next event, the 400.

“I didn’t think it would be that bad, but about halfway through the race my legs were gone,” Mayberry said. “I couldn’t finish like I wanted.”

Still, he was happy with his performance.

“This is always one of my favorite meets,” Mayberry said. “It’s nice getting competitive races halfway through the season.”
