Regina pulls away from Camanche

CAMANCHE — Iowa City Regina scored four runs in the top of the sixth to put away Camanche 10-2 on Thursday in River Valley Conference baseball.

The Regals had four extra-base hits, including a home run and a double from Jack Brinkman. Regina’s Payton Raso had three hits and two RBIs, as well.

Tanner Atkinson and Kyler Campie each had an RBI for the Indians. Blake Bialas and Seth Boysen each had two hits.

“Blake had a good game with the bat and played very well defensively, making a diving unassisted double play to save a couple of runs,” Camanche coach Darryl Cochran said.

Northeast holds on

WILTON — Jack Murphy hit a two-run double in the top of the second inning that helped the Northeast Rebels fend off Wilton 3-2. Northeast had three hits, and they all came in that inning. Tevin Stoecker had a leadoff single, a Michael Hartung hit by pitch, then the Murphy double, followed by a Zach Scott single that scored Murphy.

The Rebels had just two more baserunners, both by walks.

Stoecker did not allow an earned run as Wilton scored its first run on a Murphy error, then Stoecker committed an error that allowed a run in the fifth inning.

“He attacked hitters and competed the whole way,” Rebels coach Tyler Howe said.

Stoecker threw 95 pitches (65 strikes), striking out 10 hitters, walking just one and allowing three hits. He finished the game by striking out the side on 11 pitches.
