Camanche Eco-Tourism Center opening

CAMANCHE — The community is invited to see completed exhibits at the Mississippi River Eco-Tourism Center on Sunday.

The grand opening will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at the center, with a short presentation at 2 p.m. Clinton County Conservation Board Director Walt Wickham said that while the center has been open to the public for a year and a half, new displays will be seen Sunday.

“We had the building, but the displays were not complete,” Wickham said.

The 8,000-gallon aquarium has been part of the center for some time, but has slowly been filled with more and more live native fish. Center staff have worked to complete a live turtle display, featuring a clear tunnel to allow children to experience the display more thoroughly.

“They tell us it will be done,” Wickham said.

Refreshments and raffle drawings will be offered at the event. Rock Creek Marina will offer free canoe and kayak rentals Sunday.
