CLINTON — The Clinton Community College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society has collected nearly 2,000 of holiday and greeting cards for the troops.
Members of PTK worked with CCC staff, faculty, students and community members to collect nearly 2,000 cards with personal messages of hope and gratitude for those members of military serving overseas and wounded warriors recovering. The CCC Student Veterans Association and CCC Student Senate are funding the postage expense of this project.
The PTK Club has organized the Holiday Card project for four years, beginning in 2010, in response to a student wanting to send cards to her son’s military unit overseas. The card writers include CCC staff, faculty, students and has now expanded to a morning at Hy-VEE so that the community can be involved.
PTK Adviser and CCC instructor Shirley Turnis, whose son served overseas during the 2011 holiday season, commented, “This project touches so many lives, both the card writers and those receiving the holiday greetings. It is important for our military members to know someone is thinking of them while serving overseas or recovering in the hospital.”
