CLINTON — Clinton residents now will have another option for medical care seven days a week.
The new Medical Associates Urgent Care and Occupational Medicine Center will open Thursday at the corner of Manufacturing Drive and Valley West Drive. Business hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with walk-ins welcome.
Plans for this 6,000-square-foot facility began to solidify in 2012, with work beginning in August. Medical Associates Chief Operating Officer Thomas Moser is happy with the completion of the building
“It really did come together very quickly. We've been very pleased with the Erdman Company (of Madison, Wis.) and all the subcontractors that they worked with,” Moser said. “The project basically got delivered on time. They said it would be in mid-December and that's exactly what they achieved."
With the increase of those with medical coverage coming with the Affordable Care Act, Moser said Medical Associates needed to find creative ways to respond to the need for easily accessible healthcare. The group saw a need for an urgent care clinic with weekend hours.
“We were trying to respond to both what the public was telling us, in terms of access to healthcare, as well as what employers were telling us,” Moser said. “All of the research that we have done, says yes, it's definitely meeting an unmet need."
The facility will treat both adult and pediatric patients for injuries and illnesses requiring immediate care. The occupational health services portion of the center will provide such services as pre-employment exams, drug testing and treatment of work-related injuries (with employer approval).
Medical care for the Urgent Care and Occupational Medicine Center will be provided by Peter Matos, D.O., a board certified occupational medicine physician. Experienced nurse practitioners and physician assistants will work alongside Matos.
