Children can read to therapy dogs

PAWS for Reading! On Monday, March 3, and Monday, March 17, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., read to a therapy dog at the library. Kids can read aloud to a therapy dog in order to improve reading and communication skills. Children read individually to trained therapy pets (and their handlers) at the library where they can feel comfortable and confident — and have fun. Kids will also get prizes along the way for each time they read to our therapy dogs. Registration required. Please call the library or sign up at the Children’s Desk at the Main Branch.

Minecraft for Kids. Beginning Tuesday, March 4, kids in grades 3 to 5 can face Minecraft challenges and competitions while they enjoy snacks every Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. Sign up at the Children’s desk.

Afternoon Adventures. Explore your world on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Open to children in grades 1 through 5. The next Afternoon Adventure will be held March 5 and the theme for this week will be a board game marathon. Kids, come in to challenge your skills.

Story time. The theme for next week is Dragons! Story time will take place on Wednesday, March 5, and Thursday, March 6, at 10 a.m. If you have questions, please contact children’s staff at 243-5436.

Smart Choice Health Insurance. Determine how to make a smart choice about health insurance at this workshop presented by the Clinton County office of the ISU Extension service on Thursday, March 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Are you wondering what the changes in health insurance mean for you? This workshop will help you: understand key health insurance concepts and terms; learn to identify your health insurance needs and priorities; examine the pros and cons of three hypothetical insurance plans; understand key provisions of the Affordable Care Act; use Iowa’s new Health Insurance Marketplace; understand tax credits and financial assistance available to many consumers. The workshop is free; but, please call the library at 242-8441 to register.
