Solid Waste Agency offering holiday recycling programs

CLINTON — The Clinton County Area Solid Waste Agency is preparing for the Christmas and New Year’s season with holiday hours and special recycling programs.

The CCASWA facilities will close at noon on both Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. The facility will be closed all day on both Christmas and New Year’s Day. Normal hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Director of Operations and Education Brad Seward is reminding the public to recycle Christmas trees and unwanted or malfunctioning holiday lights after the season is over. Both of these holiday items will be accepted for free between Dec. 26 and Jan. 11. The lights are accepted free year-round.

The CCASWA recycles electrical wiring, such as electrical cords, extension cords, and Christmas lights through its metal recycling program. Anyone wishing to utilize the electrical wiring recycling program should stop in the office at the CCASWA, 4292 220th St., and tell the scale attendant on duty, who will direct the person to the proper drop-off area.

Citizens can also bring real Christmas trees to be repurposed and used for wood mulch. Seward asks that any Christmas trees brought to the recycling center not have any of the following on them: ornaments or ornament hooks; tinsel; garland; a tree stand; plastic bags; Christmas lights wire; or any other foreign objects.
