CLINTON — The Clinton Fire Department is still investigating a Wednesday evening fire which injured one fire fighter.
The fire department responded with three ambulances, two engines and an aerial staffed by 13 personnel to 764 13th Ave. South for a "dryer fire with flames up in the ceiling." Arriving at the scene, crews found heavy smoke coming from the eves and second floor windows, according to a press release.
Two companies made the initial attack on the fire, but were forced to evacuate because of deteriorating conditions. A second alarm was called with six off-duty firefighters responding. The Camanche Fire Department assisted at the scene as well.
Crews made a brief defensive attack on the fire and then re-entered the structure and extinguished the fire. Crews remained on scene for a few hours to eliminate hot spots.
One firefighter was injured by a piece of broken glass hitting his boot and cutting his foot. He was treated at Mercy Medical Center North and was released back to duty.
The cause of the fire was still unknown at press time.
