Clinton man jailed for possession of cocaine, domestic abuse

CLINTON — Some jail time for possession of cocaine and domestic abuse were ordered for a Clinton man who broke into the apartment he used to share with his girlfriend.

Tyrus l. Taylor, 34, 647 Eighth Ave., South, pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine and was ordered to serve 180 days in the Clinton County Jail, with 170 days suspended and credit for five days served, and was fined $500. He also pleaded guilty to domestic abuse and was ordered to serve 30 days in the Clinton County jail, with 20 days suspended and credit for five days served, and was fined $65. He must complete 12 months of probation.

Charges resulted from a 911 call on March 2, when the caller reported her boyfriend was attempting to kick in her back door at 75 1/2 Main Ave. According to court documents, the defendant had tried his key at the back door, but found that the locks had been changed after the victim moved his belongings out of the residence earlier that day. He began kicking the door.

The affidavit continues Taylor proceeded to climb over the deck rails of the second-story apartment and onto the roof of the lower portion of the building. He then removed the screen on the bedroom window and crawled into the window, cutting his hands on the aluminum frame. Finding his girlfriend on the phone with 911, Taylor pulled her hair, grabbed the phone and left the apartment, according to court documents.

Police located Taylor in the 100 block of 25th Avenue North and took him to jail. While at the jail, three plastic baggies containing a total of 1.6 grams of a white powdery substance, testing positive for cocaine, was found on him, according to court documents.

Taylor must receive a substance abuse evaluation from New Directions and complete the Batterers Education Program. His driver's license is revoked for 180 days. A charge of public intoxication was dismissed.
