The Susan G. Komen for the Cure® foundation was formed in 1982, launching the global breast cancer movement. The foundation came from a promise Nancy G. Brinker made to her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, to do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. The organization has worked to transform how the world talks about and treats this disease, turning millions of breast cancer patients into breast cancer survivors. Through events like the Komen Race for the Cure, the foundation has invested almost $2 billion to fulfill Brinker's promise. These funds are used to work toward the end of breast cancer in U.S. and throughout the would with ground-breaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 50 countries. Donations can be made online and via text. People can make a $10 donation by texting "KOMEN" to 90999. For additional information, people can visit http://ww5.komen.org.
