Man receives probation for domestic assault

---- — CLINTON — A Clinton man received probation for choking his wife, while she was holding their daughter.

Jaycob Pell, 26, 735 14th Ave. South, pleaded guilty to domestic abuse assault, second offense, and was ordered to serve 90 days in the Clinton County jail, with 85 days suspended and credit for one day served and was fined $625. He must complete 12 months of probation.

According to court documents, Clinton police were dispatched at 4:50 a.m. on Aug. 17 to Pell’s residence for a report of a suicidal subject. After they arrived, Pell assured officers he was fine. Police spoke to Pell’s wife at 5 a.m. and noticed that she was nervous and had red marks on the side of her neck, according to the affidavit.

The victim told police that she was in the nursery with her daughter, when an argument with her husband turned physical, according to court documents. While she was holding their child, Pell grabbed her by the neck and choked her. She scratched his face, causing him to let go.

Pell must receive a substance abuse evaluation from New Directions and complete the Batterers Education Program. A no-contact order was canceled.
