Final step to raise waste fee on agenda

Council also will talk about adding to Eagle Point Park

CLINTON — The Clinton City Council during its meeting Tuesday night will decide whether to increase Clinton residents’ solid waste bills by $1.39, in addition to several other items.

The increase would bring the monthly cost for solid waste services from $14.50 to $15.89 for residents who use the solid waste services. Residents who do not use the city’s solid waste services will see their monthly fee increase from $9.25 to $9.67.

Council members will vote on a contingency fee contract for the law firm Hannifan and Hannifan related to the the city’s suit against its former attorneys, Hopkins & Huebner, P.C., claiming that the firm failed to properly and adequately analyze a 2010 Emergency Medical Services billing case.

The council also will consider setting a public hearing to initiate eminent domain proceedings to acquire property for an addition to Eagle Point Park.

City payment of flooding related bills at Ashford University Field, a green infrastructure project for Main Avenue and increasing the liquor license inspection fee also are slated for council approval.

During the Committee of the Whole meeting, the council will discuss traffic signals at the intersections of 11th Avenue South and 14th Street and 13th Avenue North and 11th Street.

City Engineer Jason Craft will update the council on his view of the bandshell improvement project from the Vision8 group.

Council members also will discuss a request from Canadian Pacific Railroad to permanently close the 25th Avenue North railroad crossing as well as requests from outside agencies for funding.

Also up for discussion will be a work session for the solid waste request for proposal (RFP). The council previously approved contracting with Minnesota-based consultant Springsted to create an RFP that would allow private entities and the city to submit plans for solid waste services.

The City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at city hall, with the Committee of the Whole meeting immediately following.
