---- — CLINTON — A Clinton man faces a felony charge after allegedly walking into Mercy Medical Center North on Saturday with the intent of “cutting” people.

Gerald R. Heath Jr., 29, 2604 N. Fourth St., apartment 2003, is charged with going armed with intent. This is a class D felony, carrying as much as five years in prison and a fine of between $750 and $7,500.

The affidavit states that Heath told officers he “felt like hurting people and that hurting people was the only way to get people to start taking him seriously.”

According to court documents, Clinton police officers responded at 6:20 p.m. Saturday to a report of a man entering Mercy Medical Center North with a razor-blade type knife. Dispatchers advised that Heath stated he was going to cut people, starting with the first person who spoke to him, according to the affidavit.

Officers entering the hospital found Heath sitting on a chair. The affidavit continues that he admitted to having a folding razor knife in his right front pocket. The woman who called the police explained to officers that she got Heath to give her a knife he had on him, but he would not give up the razor knife, according to court documents.

Health is currently being held in the Clinton County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
