Search continues for man involved in robbery

CLINTON — The search continues for a man allegedly involved in an armed robbery Tuesday.

And Clinton Police released more information regarding a man already arrested in connection with the incident.

Shawn T. Jones, 21, was charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a firearm as a felon Wednesday. Originally, police said they arrested a man named Jason Monroe, but that was proved false when Jones’ fingerprints were sent to the FBI Special Processing Center.

Criminal history shows Jones is a convicted felon.

The other man allegedly involved in the incident is described as a black male, last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt. He remains at large.

Jones made an initial court appearance Wednesday for the two felony charges and is being held on $100,000 bond. His next preliminary hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 16.

According to court documents, at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jones and another man went to 1221 S. Ninth St., carrying guns with the intent to commit robbery. One individual wearing a mask entered the residence of William Gomez without permission, pushed Gomez through a door and to the floor.

The individual then put a gun to Gomez’s head and demanded property.

Josh and James Sheley arrived and began fighting with the second individual carrying a gun. The first individual fled the scene on foot. The Sheleys maintained control of the second person while Gomez called 911.

Upon officers arrival, they secured Jones. Jones said he went to the home with a gun to commit robbery because he was robbed by them in the past. Jones was taken to Mercy Medical Center North for injuries he received while fighting with the Sheleys.

Jones told doctors and nurses that he was beat with his own gun. He was treated and released.

Officers located a handgun hidden outside the home. The weapon recovered at the home was reported stolen in Martinsville, Ind.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Clinton Police Department at 243-1458 or Clinton County Crime Stoppers at (888) 883-8015.
