Softball roundup: Indians win in 11th

CAMANCHE — After playing even with West Branch for four consecutive innings, Camanche pushed across a run in the bottom of the 11th inning and beat the Bears 9-8 in River Valley Conference softball on Thursday night.

Jordan Nissen, Camanche’s leadoff batter, had four hits, including a triple and two doubles, to lead the Indians (12-18). She also drove in a pair of runs.

Maddie Parker added three hits, while Kyle Vogel scored three runs and Lindsey Grams reached home twice in the victory.

West Branch got most of its production from the top three batters in the lineup. Jori Robertson, Dalana Kron and Shannon Laing were a combined 10-for-17. Laing homered a drove in four runs.

West rocks CHS twice

DAVENPORT — Davenport West put up crooked numbers in the first, second and fourth innings of each game as it swept Clinton 12-1 and 12-0 on Thursday in Mississippi Athletic Conference softball.

Rachel Stewart drove in four runs and winning pitcher Lexy Monty homered and had three RBIs in the opener, which lasted 4 1/2 innings. Monty limited Clinton (5-25) to four hits and one unearned run. She walked one and struck out seven. The Falcons scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the third and five in the fourth. The River Queens scored their run in the top of the third.

Stewart, Monty and Alison Wheeler each had a pair of RBIs in Game 2 for West. The Falcons scored three runs in each of the first two innings, then ended it early with a six-run fourth. Winning pitchers Chelsea Notton recorded the shutout, allowing five hits and no walks while striking out three.

Rebels spliton road

Rylee Dickey’s two-run home run in the first inning gave Northeast a nice start as it defeated host West Liberty 7-1 on Thursday, but the Rebels couldn’t get much offense going when they traveled to Iowa City Regina later in the day and lost 2-0 to split a pair of River Valley Conference softball games.

Dickey’s one-out homer scored Aleenah Marcucci, who led off the game with a bunt single. Marcucci also had bunt singles in the third and fourth innings and scored both times.

Marcucci led off the second game with a bunt hit, too, but was thrown out trying to steal second base. Jayna Farrell followed with a single, but Regina pitcher Hannah Stein did not allow another hit.

Madison Scott led off the Regina fourth with a home run to break a scoreless tie in the pitchers’ duel between Stein and Addie Oberman.

The split left Northeast with a 20-14 record.

Marquette sweeps

CENTRAL CITY — Marquette Catholic ran its record to 30-4 on Thursday with a Tri-Rivers Conference sweep of Central City.

The Mohawks won the first game 10-0 and the second 9-5.
