Girls basketball roundup: Camanche beats North Cedar

CLARENCE — North Cedar scored eight points in the final minute, but the Camanche girls basketball team had enough of a lead to hold on for a 38-35 victory Friday night in River Valley Conference play.

Kylie Vogel buried five 3-point goals and scored a game-high 16 points for the Indians, who won their eighth game in a row. Libby Schnoor added 11.

The Indians (10-2) enjoyed leads of 11-5 after one quarter, 19-15 at the half and 27-21 entering the fourth period. They pushed the advantage to 36-27 with a minute remaining before the Knights (5-7) made things interesting.

Cortlyn Kasik and Alison Malaby each made a 3-pointer during that span, but North Cedar came up short.

Irish win at line

WHEATLAND — Andrea Aquilani and Lauren Pittman each went to the free-throw line more than 10 times and each scored in double digits to lead Prince of Peace past Calamus-Wheatland 41-31 on Friday in Tri-Rivers Conference girls basketball.

The Warriors committed 30 fouls, sending the Irish to the line 45 times.

Free throws lift Rebels

GOOSE LAKE — Addie Oberman nailed 9 of 11 free throws late in the fourth quarter to put her Rebels over Monticello 43-34 on Friday night.

Before Oberman’s free throws, the game was close throughout the night. The largest lead either team had was in the beginning of the fourth quarter when the Rebels led by seven.

Oberman wasn’t the only one who visited the free throw line. Aleenah Marcucci got two of her seven points from the line.

Oberman ended up with 19 points.

Sabers top CPU

DEWITT — Hailey Saunders scored 19 points as the DeWitt Central Sabers defeated Center Point-Urbana 62-50.

The Sabers won despite allowing two Stormin Pointers to score more than 20 points. Arika Wooldridge scored 20 points while Kennedy Salow led with 22 points.

DeWitt saw the free-throw line several times Friday making 19 of 27 free throws. Saunders went 8-for-10 from the line.
