Starbucks coming to Clinton Hy-Vee

CLINTON — Hy-Vee store director Chris DeSaulniers acknowledges there have been some inconveniences for customers with the recent shutdown of one of his building's entrances. He believes that hold up will pay off in a big way for local shoppers.

Clinton's Hy-Vee is in the process of a store-wide update that DeSaulniers said will create some new positions and add a Starbucks coffee shop among other useful components. The Clinton location, he said, was due for an update, and Hy-Vee staff members are excited for what will come of it.

"The store is approaching 17 years old, so some freshening up was in order," DeSaulniers said. "We've been talking about this for a while. The employees are excited with the changes and remodeling process."

In addition to the Starbucks, Clinton Hy-Vee will receive a full-service Market Cafe — a Hy-Vee brand restaurant that includes a wait staff. Diners will still be able to eat buffet items from the homestyle and Chinese sections, but the restaurant will allow for a more conventional sit down atmosphere. The restaurant will also have wine and beer offerings.

"It'll give them a new modern looking place to shop," DeSaulniers said. "We want it to appear as if they built a new store here today, as though our store looks like what a new store would look like."

Other areas of the store, like the bakery, pharmacy and prouce, will also receive enhancements. The facility will also receive a more modern paint job.
