---- — CLINTON — Ashford University received official confirmation on Friday that it is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
The university was put on notice from the Higher Learning Commission in March, but the university received notification in July that it was granted initial accreditation by WASC for five years. In September, Ashford announced it no longer was on notice with HLC.
Ashford President Richard Pattenaude said he’s pleased the Department of Education approved Ashford’s transition to WASC.
“Our university looks forward to continuing to guide our students toward academic success,” Pattenaude said.
Ashford received a letter from the Department of Education on Friday formally recognizing WASC as the primary accrediting agency for the university. Ashford also received a letter from the Federal Student Aid School Eligibility Channel School Participation Team acknowledging that Ashford’s Application for approval to participate in Federal Student Financial Aid programs had been provisionally approved, permitting the university to continue to participate in federal financial aid programs.
As a result of the DOE approval, Ashford will resign its accreditation with the HLC.
