---- — IOWA CITY — Former Clinton all-state baseball player Jake Mangler has earned all-region honors for the University of Iowa.

Mangler, a junior second baseman, and teammate Jake Yacinich, the team’s shortstop, both were named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Mideast Region first team this week. They are Iowa’s first all-region players since 2008.

Mangler put together a solid season for the Hawkeyes (30-23) and helped them reach the Big Ten tournament. He started in 52 of the 53 games and batted .315 (68-for-216), with 11 doubles, one triple and one home run.

He had at least one hit in 41 games and had 20 multi-hit games. He drove in a team-high 45 runs, ranking seventh in the Big Ten in that statistical category. He also ranked 12th in on-base percentage (.397).

Mangler, who committed just five errors in 254 chances, also was named to the All-Big Ten second team.

Yacinich, who also earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and signed with the Los Angeles organization after being drafted by the Angels in the eighth round, led Iowa with a .365 batting average, 25 steals and four triples. He also had 32 RBIs and a .447 on-base percentage.
