Queens limited to two hits in losses

CEDAR RAPIDS — Cassady Knudsen threw a five-inning no-hitter Saturday as fifth-ranked Southeast Polk shut out Clinton 17-0 at the Cedar Rapids Jefferson Invitational softball tournament.

The River Queens were limited to two hits in their other game, a 12-0 loss to the host school.

Shelby Uhl hit three doubles and drove in four runs to lead Southeast Polk, while Knudsen had four hits and three RBIs. In the pitcher’s circle, she walked one and struck out 10 batters.

Alyssa Olson pitched a five-inning two-hitter in Cedar Rapids Jefferson’s 12-0 victory against the Queens.

Maddie Hansen had three hits and three RBIs, and Olivia Erickson added two hits and three RBIs in the win.

Maquoketa also went 0-2 at the tournament, losing 3-1 to Southeast Polk and 14-1 to Johnston.

Northeast goes 2-1

CALAMUS — Northeast finished 2-1 on its side of play Saturday at the Calamus-Wheatland tournament, while the host school finished 3-0 on the other side.

Northeast defeated Camanche 4-3 and West Branch 9-7 but lost 10-7 to top-ranked Highland (Class 2A). Kelsey Carder drove in two runs in each game for the Rebels (12-6).

Calamus-Wheatland beat North Cedar 20-8, Louisa-Muscatine 11-0 and Bellevue 7-1 to raise its record to 11-7. Bellevue also beat Louisa-Muscatine 2-1 but lost 7-0 to North Cedar.

Northeast scored with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn its win against Camanche.

Tierra Hildebrandt led off with a single and stole second base. Rylee Dickey followed with a single, then both players advanced on a wild pitch. Camanche pitcher Morgan Mussmann got Aleenah Marcucci to pop out, but Carder followed with a fielder’s choice that scored the winning run.

Carder’s sacrifice fly gave the Rebels a 1-0 lead in the first. In scored Marcucci, who reached on a bunt single and stole second.

The Indians went ahead with three runs in the top of the second.
