Bandshell vision becomes reality (with VIDEO)

CLINTON — Clinton residents welcomed some new visitors Monday as the four-piece band Unscene Patrol rocked the riverfront at the Riverview Park Bandshell.

The Omaha natives played a free outdoor concert and helped promote what Clinton Convention and Visitors Bureau Director Carrie Donaire envisions for the bandshell and the Clinton riverfront.

“We get a lot of inquiries for different types of venues here in town so knowing about the bandshell and getting people arranged is something we always do,” Donaire said. “I helped (them) get in contact with Gregg Obren (Clinton recreation department director) and helped provide them with information locally. I didn’t do a whole lot to get them here but it is exciting to see different groups using the resources we have.”

Once connected, Obren and Unscene Patrol front man Kevin McClure were able to hash out the details for the bandshell rental and set up the unique musical event.

And when they arrived, McClure said he and his bandmates were thrilled with the opportunity to play on the Clinton riverfront.

“This is great,” McClure said. “I was surprised when we got here because it is a bigger town than we expected but we’re at humble beginnings so we appreciate any support we can get.”

In order to generate a fan base at Monday’s concert though, McClure had to enlist the help of some Clinton locals who actually invited the band to come play at the riverfront. But none of it would have happened without the approval of Obren, who said it couldn’t have fallen on a better night.

“The hurdle has always been having a way to control the sound because if you put a band down there while other things are happening at the riverfront it can cause a disturbance,” he said. “Part of the reason (Monday) worked is because there’s no ball game, there’s no Showboat performance so it was a good night for them to be here.”
