Senate candidate visits Clinton

CLINTON — U.S. Senate candidate David Young paid a visit to Clinton on Friday during his tour of the 99 counties in Iowa.

Young has reached more than 40 of the 99 counties in the state and said he is just getting started.

“As a representative, I need to know the pulse of my state,” Young said. “When you’re working with Iowa for Iowans, you really get to know (it).”

Young is running for the republican ticket for the June 2014 primaries in the race to replace the retiring Senator Tom Harkin.

For the last seven years Young has been chief of staff for Senator Chuck Grassley and this will be his first run for office.

His campaign efforts include tackling the budget deficit, job deficit and the deficit of trust within the federal government.

“I know Iowa, I know the Senate and I know what the issues are,” Young said.

Young’s competetors for the Republican primary race include Matt Whitaker, Joni Ernst, Mark Jacobs and Sam Clovis, among others.

If Young is selected as the Republican primary he will face off with Democratic candidate Bruce Braley in the November 2014 election.
