Library enhancement planning under way

CLINTON — A library planning consultant and an architect visited with staff at the Clinton Public Library on Wednesday to discuss how to best deliver services to the community.

Director Amy Birtell said the Wednesday morning meeting was just the first of many for an assessment study to identify what the library needs to thrive. George Lawson from Lawson Library Planning and Robert Winters from Gere/Dismer Architects toured the library before sitting down with the department heads.

“What's right for Clinton? You tell me,” Lawson said.

Lawson passed out worksheets for the staff members to fill out on what their departments need to serve the area. These worksheets will help lead discussions during future meetings.

He told the employees that he hopes with their help to make the beautiful and historic building into one that is efficient and effective for another 100 years or more. Birtell asked the department heads to talk with their staff for their opinions on what each section needs.

The study will also involve building requirements, such as Americans with Disabilities Act compliance.

Gere/Dismer Architects, Lawson Library Planning, KJWW Engineering Consultants, Paragon Commercial Interiors and Missman Inc. will be working as a team for this study.

Lawson will be returning to the library April 18 and 19 for further discussion on the library's needs.
