FULTON, Ill. —
The River Bend School District is considering ways to avoid singling out families needing the free and reduced lunch program during school registration.
During a Thursday night meeting of the River Bend Board of Education Policy Committee, Jane Orman-Luker expressed concerns about having a table with free and reduced sign-up sheets at registration, where everyone can see who stops there.
"I just want us to make sure we're being sensitive to how that's occurring," Orman-Luker siad.
Superintendent Chuck Holliday said that at his previous district, all parents filled out the form. Board Member Jay Ritchie suggested that everyone in the registration line could be handed the form.
"I think we are sensitive and cautious about the registration process," Holliday said.
He said they can take a deeper look into the issue at the board's registration preparatory meeting in the spring.
