Women on Fire event is Wednesday at Vista Grande

CLINTON — For many years, women in business have been honored in the city of Clinton, but on Wednesday, they have a night all their own.

The Women are on Fire event will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Vista Grande in Clinton and will offer an opportunity for like-minded businesswomen to network, socialize and enjoy each others’ company.

Event organizer and Women in Business committee member Joni Krogman has helped plan the annual event for many years and feels it is an important opportunity for women to express themselves.

“I believe the history on this committee was started when a group of women in business wanted to learn more about their own businesses,” Krogman said. “They just wanted to network, learn from each other and just meet more people. That’s what this is really for to meet new people and to learn things to help us as professional women.”

This year’s women’s celebration will feature a social hour where guests can sample tastings from the Mississippi River Distilling Company in LeClaire, followed by dinner provided by the Vista Grande and concluding with a presentation from keynote speaker LaDrina Wilson.

Wilson is the assistant director of enrollment at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and was recently awarded the Young Professional of the Year through the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce.

She plans to use her experience with public presentations and her strong beliefs of women’s equality and empowerment to transform the Women on Fire event into a celebration of women in business everywhere.

“What I’m hoping for, outside of creating a space for us to have a discussion, is to inspire women to reach out to each other,” Wilson said. “I think if we’re able to show the hard work of the women in this community, hopefully they will reach out to other women in business and other young women to inspire them.”
