Habitat home ground-breaking set for May 4

CLINTON — Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County has planned a groundbreaking ceremony for its most recent home on Sunday, May 4.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony at 2 p.m. at the site of the new home, 338 19th Place, Clinton. In case of bad weather, the ceremony will take place at 311 18th Place.

Jessica and Jason Johannsen and their three daughters, Kristina, Kylee and Keyauna, were chosen by Habitat last fall. Their new home in Clinton will be located at 338 19th Place in Clinton.

Families are selected to purchase a Habitat home based on their housing and financial needs. Families are required to earn “sweat equity,” some of which is acquired by participating in the construction of their own home. Habitat homes generally cost less than traditional homes because volunteers do much of the labor. Habitat partner families assume a mortgage upon completion of their homes.

Habitat for Humanity, Inc. is a nonprofit, ecumenical, Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate substandard housing from the face of the earth by partnering with low-income families to build or renovate adequate, affordable housing that is sold to the partner family without profit or interest.

In selecting partner families, Habitat for Humanity of Clinton County, Inc. will not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin.

Call the Habitat office at 242-4494 or email clintoncountyhabitat@yahoo.com for more information. Visit the website at www.clintoncountyiowahabitat.com.
