Deferred judgment granted in meth case

CLINTON — A Camanche woman may not serve any prison time for aiding her boyfriend in manufacturing methamphetamine.

Erin Draper, 32, received a deferred judgment for the class C felony of manufacturing meth. District Court Judge Mark Lawson also ordered her to serve 105 days in the Clinton County jail , for two charges of child endangerment, with credit for 105 days served. The sentences will be served concurrently.

A total of 10 people sat in the courtroom Thursday, offering support to Draper. Defense Attorney Bruce Ingham called them her “circle of family and friends.”

Assistant Clinton County Attorney Amanda Myers recommended a suspended sentence for Draper and did not resist a deferred judgment. She told the court that the defendant had no criminal involvement until she began using meth. Myers added that Draper cooperated fully with law enforcement and has shown a willingness to receive treatment for her substance abuse problem.

“Very seldom do I see someone who takes these steps so seriously and so early on to better themselves,” Myers said.

Draper’s charges resulted from a search warrant conducted on Oct. 31 at her home, 616 Fourth Ave., Camanche, after Camanche police received reports of a suspicious smell coming from the house. According to court documents, several items consistent with manufacturing meth were located in the search.

Draper admitted in court Feb. 13 that between Oct. 21, 2012, and Oct. 28, 2013, she knew her live-in boyfriend, Brandon Green, was making methamphetamine in their home, even assisting him by washing out bottles and purchasing pseudoephedrine. Both of her children — then ages 9 and 5 — lived in the home at this time.

“The woman you are looking at is walking a path 180 degrees different than the path she was walking six months ago,” Ingham said.

He told Lawson that his client realized she made a mistake and owned up to it, pleading guilty.
