Crocks bring in good prices at auctions

The next auction at the Clinton National Guard will be in three weeks.

One item that will be sold is a 1976 Thunderbird automobile, 460 motor V-8 with only 56,000 miles. A complete household will cross the auction block. Recent auction prices in Sigourney, Iowa include a two-piece Griswold cast metal Santa mold, which topped out at $260. A metal sign advertising Nichol Kola soft drink sold for $160, a hand-pieced quilt sampler measuring 70 by 84 ran to an even $400 and a quart of Lions Head motor oil, which was full, stood ready to pounce at $100.

A Stull hybrid seed advertisement tin sign sold for $320 and an amethyst carnival glass hatpin holder was knocked down at $100. A large enameled Coca Cola sign measuring 40 by 60 inches sold for $1,100 and a Coca Cola metal cooler with bottle opener on the side sold for $205.

One unusual item was the Aladdin kerosene floor lamp, metal with chimney and milk glass shade with floral design. It lit up a bid of $360. A Studebaker motor car watch fob went to a new home for an even $200 and the Anheuser Busch beer enamel watch fob sold for $230. A table mount cast-iron sausage stuffer, two-quart size, worked out to $140. Other items and prices realized include a cast-iron door stop in the design of a covered wagon that sold for $160, an oak wind-up wall phone brought in $160 and crocks were plentiful. A large 20-gallon with the cobalt bee design topped out at $650. Western stoneware crocks sold for $150 and $160 and a large Western stoneware canning crock with lid and wire bail went to the high bidder for $105. A cast iron turtle match holder with striker on bottom crawled away with a $110 bid. Finally, a wood toy drum with a depiction of soldiers storming San Juan Hill sold for $210. Have a nice weekend.
