Peoria topples L'Kings in 11

CLINTON – The Clinton LumberKings almost capped off another come-from-behind victory Saturday night but came up shy in an 8-6, 11-inning loss to the Peoria Chiefs. In front of 1,262 fans at Ashford University Field, Clinton’s third try at another wild rally in a one-week span finally came up short.

Emilio Pagan entered to pitch the 11th, and the Chiefs loaded the bases on a single by C.J. McElroy, a Juan Herrera walk and a Carson Kelly single to left. Ronald Castillo then delivered the decisive blow, a two-run double off the wall in left-center field that broke the 6-6 score.

Pagan struck out the next two battes, and Thyago Vieira came in to record the final out, but it was too late for Clinton.

Autin Wilson singled to lead off the bottom half, but Justin Seager popped out to second, and Joe DeCarlo and Zach Shank both struck out looking to end the game.

The LumberKings led early, but the Chiefs sent 10 men to the plate in the fifth inning and got four RBI singles, grabbing their first lead of the night, 6-2.

Clinton rallied to tie the game at 6 after eight innings. The L’Kings scored three runs in the sixth behind four straight two-out singles, the last two by Corey Simpson and Jack Reinheimer, which both brought home runners. Reinheimer capped his 3-for-6 night with a game-tying, two-out RBI single in the eighth but was stranded at second after Wilson walked and Tyler O’Neill struck out.

Clinton jumped in front with one run in the first against lefty Rob Kaminsky. Simpson drilled a one-out triple to right, and Jack Reinheimer hit his first of three run-scoring singles, putting the L’Kings up 1-0.

L’Kings starter Eddie Campbell flirted with danger in the first and third innings but managed to put up zeroes until the fourth. Campbell had a string of 9 1/3 scoreless innings, but Matthew Young snapped that streak with a two-out solo home run in the fourth.
