Queens swept in MAC opener

ELDRIDGE — Clinton managed just three hits Tuesday as it opened the Mississippi Athletic Conference softball season with a pair of losses to North Scott.

The Lancers (6-1), ranked 13th in Class 4A in the first Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union ratings of the season, won 12-0 and 9-0 on their home field.

“Strong pitching and phenomenal defense by North Scott,” Clinton coach Emily Hoague said. “We did not have hitting.”

Winning pitcher Anne DeVries homered and drove in four runs in the first game, and McKenna Heim had a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

The losses dropped Clinton’s record to 2-7.

Northeast blanked

WELLMAN — Mid-Prairie scored three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to beat Northeast 5-0 on Tuesday in River Valley Conference softball.

The win evened Mid-Prairie’s record at 4-4; Northeast slipped to 5-3.

Mohawks win eighth

TROY MILLS — Marquette Catholic ran its record to 8-1 on Tuesday as it defeated North Linn 6-1 in Tri-Rivers Conference softball.

Comets lose on road

DURANT — Durant-Bennett, ranked 10th in Class 2A, defeated Bellevue 9-2 on Tuesday in the River Valley Conference.
